Embryos on the Snow Brings you the La Prix Scholarship Award – APPLICATION AVAILABLE

Embryos on Snow is an elite auction featuring some of the best genetics in the seedstock business. The sale has historically been each January on Friday evening during “club calf weekend” at the National Western Stock Show in Denver, Colorado. New in 2021, the Embryos on Snow sale will relocate to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and be held in conjunction with the Inaugural Cattlemen's Congress. The auction consists of embryos from leading donor dams, as well as other select lots. The selection process is backed by the knowledge and past success of the marketing team and the breeders who helped start it. Many successful programs have lined the foundation of this impressive annual sale. Sale entry is by invitation and genetics featured in the Embryos on Snow are exclusive to this sale offering. The 2021 sale will be held at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on January 8, 2021. Doors will open at 5;00 p.m. and the sale will begin promtly at 6;30 p.m.

In 2011, the announcement of the Embryos on Snow Scholarship Program was made. The scholarship contest is titled “La Prix.” The sale’s commissionable proceeds, in addition to an initial sponsorship by TransOva Genetics, served as the first scholarship to be awarded. The winner of the “La Prix” contest, currently receives a $10,000 cash award and the runner-up receives a $5,000 cash award. The 3rd place winner will recieve a $3,000 cash award, the 4th and 5th place finalists will each recieve a $1,000 cash award. The scholarship is currently funded by the commissionable proceeds from the sale and the EOS sponsors.

$20,000 TOTAL will be awarded on January 8, 2021 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma prior to the 15th Annual Embryos on Snow sale.

“La Prix” is an essay type contest that seeks to find the young people that have a great deal of ambition, knowledge and ability. The essay contest is not based on writing ability, rather on content, creativity and the future intent of a young person. An applicant may have any goal, collegiate major or career in mind. You can find the online application below. Please fill it out and submit your application online.

In a 200 to 300 word essay please describe any plans for the future that you have and what goals you have set for yourself or your family. It may be anything and we encourage you to be creative in your answer. Do not list or describe past achievements or awards. Do not mention your name and give as little reference to any past history or affiliation with other names, people or organizations. Concentrate on your future plans and be as descriptive as possible as to what your future goal or plans may be. (Use the following web app to count the words in your essay. https://wordcounter.io/)

After completing the essay, please briefly answer these two questions.

QUESTION 1: Please give your immediate plans for the next year or two in under three or four sentences. This does not need to be a creative answer, simply explain your school graduation or work plans in the immediate future.

QUESTION 2: Name one achievement that you have earned that you are most proud of. This does not necessarily have to be an award or contest recognition, just an achievement that you feel you gained from work and effort. Please name only one and be very brief in your answer. You do not need to explain your answer.

"La Prix" is an essay type contest that will seek to find the young people that have a great deal of ambition, knowledge and ability. Applicants must be between the ages of 19 and 21 (as of July 1st in the year of application) or be a current Senior in a four year college. They must have some cattle and farm or ranch background. They must hold American or Canadian citizenship and have some past knowledge of the Embryos on Snow program. An applicant must not have been awarded first or second in a past La Prix contest.

An applicant should not be closely associated with the sale staff or a sponsor of Embryos on Snow. An applicant must not be related to or have a family member currently employed by a sponsor or member of the sale staff. Any association is discouraged and may result in a request of application removal.

Eight or more applicants will be contacted on or before December 10, 2020. These semi-finalists will be invited to participate in a Zoom interview on December 14, 2020 with a panel of industry proffesionals. Following the virtual interview 5 finalists will be invited to a final interview session in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at the 15th Annual Embryos on Snow held at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum. Exact location and time will be sent to all finalists. Finalist will be responsible for their Oklahoma City travel expenses. If a finalist is unable to cover the expenses they should notify the committee by emailing, graham@innovationagmarketing.com, within three days of being named a finalist.

The La Prix Winner, Runner Up, 2nd Runner Up, 3rd Runner Up, and 4th Runner Up will be announced at the Embryos on Snow Auction in January, held in conjunction with the Inagural Cattlemen's Congress on January 8, 2021 at 6:00 p.m.

An independent committee will choose the contest finalists that will meet in Oklahoma City. A separate committee of judges will be on hand for the Oklahoma City dinner and selection of the "La Prix" winner. Judging will be independent, without discussion and judges selections and votes will be anonymous. The judges for the contest will not be made known until after the selection of the winner. A contestant may not know who the judges are, even on the afternoon of the finals.
